Laminate wooden flooring, occasionally know as floating wooden boards were created in 1977 by Pergo, and are a cheaper alternative to hard wood flooring while keeping the hardwood flooring look. Essentially, laminate floors are a printed, textured image of the chosen wood grain onto a mixed fibre board, and these boards can then be treated to improve durability. Laminate floors are quick to install, and easy to maintain, and some types can be treated with antimicrobial coatings to make them even more hygienic. Most laminates are water resistant (specialised floors are available) and can have a scratch- or fade resistant coating. The depth of laminate floors is usually between 8 and 15mm, and most require no more than 10mm of expansion at the edges of the floor. The main considerations when choosing a laminate floor is the durability, as denoted by its AC rating.
Durability ratings have been determined by the European Production of Laminate flooring and are graded from AC 1 to AC 5. AC1 rated floors Are suitable for light to moderate use, e.g. in closets or bedrooms. AC 2 rated floors are graded medium usage, and are suitable for living or dining rooms. AC 3 rated floors can be used in heavy traffic residential areas or in moderately used commercial settings, e.g. residential kitchens. AC4 grade are suitable for all residential uses, and for heavier traffic commercial areas e.g. bathrooms and offices, while AC 5 rated floors, the highest rating are amenable to heavy commercial use e.g. corridors, dance floors.
We are located in the Kilnagleary Business Park just outside Carrigaline.
